SEO Validation
Every crawled page is checked against a suite of SEO rules — missing title tags, duplicate titles, missing meta descriptions, missing H1s, pages blocked by robots.txt, missing canonical URLs, and more. For web agencies managing client sites, this is table stakes.
What you'll see
Go to Sites → your site → Validation (sidebar) → filter by type "SEO".
Each issue shows:
- The affected page URL
- What's missing or misconfigured
- Severity: critical, warning, or info
Critical issues (missing titles, blocked pages) hurt search rankings directly. Warnings (duplicate descriptions, missing canonical) are important but lower urgency.
How to use it
- Run a scan
- Go to Sites → your site → Validation (sidebar)
- Filter by "SEO" using the type selector
- Review issues — click any issue to see the full details and the affected page URL
Export the results to share with clients. A filterable table of SEO issues by page makes for a clean deliverable.
Pass condition
✅ You've earned this achievement when the Validation section shows SEO-type validation results for at least one page (pass or fail).
Common issues
-
"No SEO issues found" on a page you know is broken — Make sure the crawl completed fully. A partial crawl (stopped early due to depth limit or a crawl error) may have missed pages. Check Sites → your site → Scans (sidebar) and select the scan to confirm the expected pages are in the crawl.
-
Duplicate title warnings on a CMS site — Normal if pagination pages, tag archives, or category pages share titles. The fix is canonical tags pointing to the primary URL, or unique titles per page if the CMS supports it.
-
Missing H1 on every page — If the H1 is rendered by JavaScript after page load, the crawler may not capture it. Check with
view-source:in your browser to see if the H1 is in the raw HTML or dynamically injected. -
Pages blocked by robots.txt — If your client has accidentally blocked important pages in robots.txt, this check will surface it. Check
yourdomain.com/robots.txtand compare against the flagged URLs.
