Scan Modes
QuickMonitoring supports different scan configurations. A full scan crawls every reachable page from your root URL and runs every module. But you can configure which modules run — skip spell check for speed, run link validation only, set crawl depth, or exclude specific URL patterns. Understanding scan modes lets you balance thoroughness against scan time.
What you'll see
When creating a new scan — Sites → your site → "New Scan" — you'll see a scan configuration panel with options:
- Modules — toggle individual modules on or off (Crawl, Error Detection, Validation, Link Validation, API Metrics, Spell Check, Context Analysis)
- Crawl depth — how many link hops from the root URL to follow
- URL exclusions — patterns to skip (e.g.
/admin/*,/blog/page/*) - Max pages — cap the crawl at a specific page count
The default "full scan" configuration runs everything. Custom configurations let you trade depth for speed.
How to use it
- Go to Sites → your site
- Click "New Scan"
- Review the scan configuration panel — defaults are pre-filled
- Toggle modules on or off based on what you need
- Adjust crawl depth or add URL exclusions if needed
- Click "Start Scan"
Good use cases for custom modes:
- Quick error check after a deploy — run Error Detection only, skip spell check and link validation
- Pre-launch accessibility audit — run WCAG Accessibility only, deep crawl
- Link audit on a large site — run Link Validation only, no page limit
Pass condition
✅ You've earned this achievement when you've successfully triggered a scan with a custom module configuration — at least one module toggled differently from the default.
Common issues
-
Scan runs but results look incomplete — You may have disabled a module. Open the scan detail page and check "Modules run" to see exactly which ones were active in this scan.
-
Want to exclude certain URL patterns — Add patterns in the URL exclusion list using wildcards. Examples:
/admin/*excludes all admin pages,*?page=*excludes paginated URLs,/staging/*skips a staging subfolder. Patterns use simple glob matching. -
Crawl depth is too low, missing pages — Default depth is usually 3 (three link hops from root). A deep site structure or documentation with many subsections may need depth 4 or 5. Increase it in scan configuration if you're seeing fewer pages than expected.
-
Scan taking too long on a large site — Set a max pages cap or reduce crawl depth. Running Error Detection and SEO only (skipping link validation and spell check) is significantly faster on large sites.
